** Winter Storm Warning In Effect For
Monroe, Orleans, Genesee, Wayne, Ontario and Livingston Counties **
(Rochester, N.Y.) - A major winter storm is expected to hit the
Rochester and Buffalo area on New Year’s Day.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Monroe, Orleans, Genesee, Wayne,
Ontario, and Livingston Counties from 4 p.m. Tuesday through 7 p.m. Wednesday.
There will be occasional snow showers throughout Tuesday. Snow will accumulate
around 1-2" by late afternoon. But, by evening expect heavy snow, areas of lake
enhanced snow, and blowing and drifting snow. New accumulations could be 4"-8".
For Wednesday into the evening, lake effect snow with substantial additional
accumulation is likely, especially north of the NYS Thruway, about 9 to 12".
Those south of the thruway might see 6 to 9".
On Thursday, the temperatures will fall into the teens, but are predicted to go
into the 40s or even 50s by next week. As of 12/31, the official snow
accumulation for Rochester in December 2007 was 42.5", the third greatest amount
of snow for that month and only three inches from the record.
