Two vehicles, traveling on Route 18 crashed head-on into each
other at approximately 9:30 PM and the Morton Fire Department, the Hamlin
Ambulance and Monroe ALS was dispatched by the ECC. Once it was determined that
there was entrapment, a rescue was requested from Hamlin. A second ALS unit was
requested when the damage to the vehicles was assessed. Morton Chief 2C11 was
quickly on the scene and established command. The driver of one vehicle was
standing outside of the vehicle she was operating and was quickly stabilized and
transported with what appeared to be minor injuries. The second driver was
trapped inside her vehicle, but was alert and responsive. Hamlin firefighters
arrived on the scene with Rescue 248, completed the extrication and the second
driver was also transported with a visible, serious leg injury. Morton responded
with a Rescue 218 and Engine 215. A bridge, just to the west of the scene, was
very icy and may have caused the vehicle traveling toward the east to lose
control.

LODD DETROIT, Mich. -- A Detroit firefighter was
killed when the roof of an abandoned house collapsed on him Saturday morning.
The fire started around 5 a.m. in the vacant house on Kirby Street, in the area
of Van Dyke and Warren on Detroit's east side. Authorities said Walter Harris,
37, and two other firefighters were in the attic of the house putting out hot
spots when it collapsed and trapped the men. The other two men were able to
escape but Harris was crushed by debris. He was rushed to Detroit Receiving
Hospital but did not survive.
Fellow firefighters said Harris, a 17-year veteran, was the glue of the
firehouse. "Walter loved to laugh. It's going to be hard to go through a day
here without hearing his laugh," said Lt. Steve Kirschner. Harris has six
children. The youngest is 1 and another is a Detroit firefighter. "He loved his
family so much. He was so proud of them," said Kirschner. Kirschner said he
wanted Harris' wife to know he talked about her all throughout the day Friday.
Harris was a man of faith and served as the department chaplain. "Their
(Harris' family) faith is getting through it. They grieve differently from
people who don't have faith," said Kirschner. He added that Harris broke the
color and social barrier. "He made everyone else around him more like him," said
Kirschner.

On Thursday November 6th the Albion Fire Department was dispatched
to a reported structure fire on Route 31, west of the Village. Barre Fire
Department was also dispatched with one engine under an existing mutual aid
agreement. While enroute, responding apparatus observed heavy smoke in the area.
Upon arrival, Chief Bradshaw declared a working fire. The involved building was
a large detached garage/workshop. Its proximity to the single family home
created the potential for extension to the home. Additionally, there were 3
large pine trees that the building had been built around that were also on fire.
Chief Bradshaw directed Albion Engine 35 to protect the exposure with an 1-3/4"
hand line, while attacking the bulk of the fire with a 3" hand line. Albion
Engine 31 was directed to lay a 5" line from Engine 35 to a hydrant. While
setting up, Engine 31 advised command that the hydrant was leaking under ground.
Albion Command directed Barre Engine 30 to lay a supply line to Albion Engine 35
to supplement the water being supplied by Albion Engine 31. National Grid and
the Town of Albion Highway Superintendent were special called due to problems
with the electric meter and the damaged hydrant. Medina Fire Department assisted
with the investigation.

The Kendall Fire Department was dispatched to a two story building
on fire, in the center of town, just north of the fire station on Sunday
morning. A working fire was declared and an engine and rescue from Morton, an
aerial and rescue from Holley, an aerial from Brockport and a FAST team from
Hamlin were requested to also respond. Hamlin also filled-in at Morton with a
second engine and Walker filled-in Hamlin.
The fire was through the roof as the first Kendall engine took a hydrant
across from the fire structure. Hand lines were stretched and an exterior attack
was undertaken, including use of the pre-connected deck gun on the Kendall
engine. The second Kendall engine took a hydrant behind the fire station and a
supply line was hand-laid to the scene. Morton laid-in from a hydrant on Kenmore
Road and also placed a hand line into operation. The Holley aerial arrived and
Morton supplied aerial operations from their engine. The Brockport aerial
arrived and was supplied by the line laid from the second Kendall engine. The
two rescues provided lighting at the scene.
With the roof burned off, both aerials quickly knocked down most visible
fire. A collapse zone was established as cracks in the front wall of the
structure were identified. After the initial defensive operation, the aerials
were relocated to achieve a better position to darken hot spots and the fire was
declared under control. All Monroe County mutual-aid companies were back into
service by 4:00AM. The Kendall and Holley companies were still on the scene at
7:00 AM.
The building is owned by Orleans County and was condemned and vacant.
Due to large amounts of asbestos in the building the Town was exploring possible
demolition or restoration of the structure.

Kendall Car 1 was traveling west on Roosevelt Highway in Kendall
on Sunday afternoon, October 12th and was passed by a motorcycle going at a high
rate of speed. The motorcycle was seen passing other vehicles and then
disappeared around a curve as the highway then runs along the Monroe - Orleans
County line. The motorcycle failed to negotiate that curve, took out some rail
fence, and ended-up in a lawn on the Monroe County side of the highway, with two
seriously injured riders. Kendall Car 1immediately came onto the scene and
requested a Morton Fire Department response, ambulances from Kendall and Hamlin,
Mercy Flight and ALS from Monroe Ambulance. Patient care was started and the
first victim was transported by Hamlin Ambulance, with a ALS meet enroute, to
Strong Hospital. The second victim was also stabilized and then transported by
Mercy Flight to Strong.

Suicide is a difficult topic that most people don't like to talk about.
The main reason is because of the stigma attached to it. Stigma prevents people
from getting help and society from learning about suicide and depression. Help
break the stigma! Come to the free, "Understanding Suicide and Depression"
community event on the attached flyer. Help get the word out by making copies
and giving them to family members, co-workers, pastors, neighbors, doctors &

Hang them on bulletin boards, doors or where ever else they are allowed

I have spent a generous portion of today migrating all web content
and emails from the older PC (slower and almost full) to a new PC (faster and
more capacity). If you notice anything different or abnormal on the webs, please
let me know. Thanks, Ralf

** Winter Storm Warning In Effect For
Monroe, Orleans, Genesee, Wayne, Ontario and Livingston Counties **
(Rochester, N.Y.) - A major winter storm is expected to hit the
Rochester and Buffalo area on New Year’s Day.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Monroe, Orleans, Genesee, Wayne,
Ontario, and Livingston Counties from 4 p.m. Tuesday through 7 p.m. Wednesday.
There will be occasional snow showers throughout Tuesday. Snow will accumulate
around 1-2" by late afternoon. But, by evening expect heavy snow, areas of lake
enhanced snow, and blowing and drifting snow. New accumulations could be 4"-8".
For Wednesday into the evening, lake effect snow with substantial additional
accumulation is likely, especially north of the NYS Thruway, about 9 to 12".
Those south of the thruway might see 6 to 9".
On Thursday, the temperatures will fall into the teens, but are predicted to go
into the 40s or even 50s by next week. As of 12/31, the official snow
accumulation for Rochester in December 2007 was 42.5", the third greatest amount
of snow for that month and only three inches from the record.
