(Murray, N.Y.) - A pregnant woman was not seriously injured after
she jumped from a moving vehicle during a police pursuit. Police attempted to
stop Ashley Sizemore, 23, of Rochester, after she was observed to be driving
erratically on Route 31 near Fancher Road in the town of Murray around 2:30
Saturday morning. When police tried to stop her, she drove off. Police followed
her until she jumped from the moving vehicle around the 14400 block of Ridge
Road in Gaines. Sizemore was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital where she
was treated for an ankle injury. She is facing charges of aggravated unlicensed
operation of a motor vehicle, traffic and vehicle charges, and other charges
pending a blood test. Sizemore is five months pregnant, but it does not appear
there was any harm to her unborn child.

On Tuesday November 6, 2007 at approximately 2:00PM the Albion
Fire Department was dispatched for a reported structure fire at 3727 Clarendon
Road. The call originally came in as a burglar alarm, and Sheriff Deputies
arriving on scene discovered a fire in the attached two car garage of the single
story single family dwelling. The Albion Fire Department arrived and quickly
extinguished a fire confined to the back wall of the garage. The Barre Fire
Department was automatically dispatched and responded with a pumper. COVA
provided EMS coverage at the scene. The Holley Fire Department was dispatched
for a FAST team, but while enroute was diverted to the Albion Fire Station for a
fill in. The fire is under investigation by the Orleans County Fire
Investigation Unit. The heat from the fire melted the key pad for the burglar
alarm, activating the system.

On Wednesday October 31, 2007 the Albion Fire Department was
dispatched to a reported structure fire at 118 Day Street. The Barre Fire
Department was dispatched with one pumper under an automatic mutual aid
agreement. First arriving units found a two story single family home with heavy
fire in the rear of the structure. The home was determined to be vacant and
under reconstruction, and the decision was made to initiate an exterior attack.
Strong westerly winds hampered the fire suppression activities, and worked to
drive the fire into the structure. Once the bulk of the fire in the rear of the
structure was darkened down, crews entered the front door to continue to
extinguish the fire. The FAST team from Medina Fire Department was requested
early on. COVA responded to provide EMS coverage at the scene. The Carlton Fire
Department provided a fill in, but was eventually moved up to the scene to
assist with overhaul. The Hulberton Fire Company was then requested to fill in
at the Albion Station. All crews were back in quarters at 4:10AM. The fire is
under investigation by the Albion Fire Department, Albion Police Department,
Orleans County Fire Investigators and the New York State Office of Fire
Prevention and Control.

(Parma, N.Y.) - An off duty firefighter drinking coffee at his
kitchen table heard a loud noise and looked up to find a car teetering on the
edge of his swimming pool. ”It was literally airborne!" Scott Owen said. The car
traveled 1,000 feet across a field and exploded through a two-foot-thick brick
wall. The Cadillac stopped at the pool's edge perched like a see saw with its
front bumper under water. While Owen’s fiancé called 911, he pulled himself out
of the moment to remember his firefighter training. "The car was still running,”
Owen said. “I was worried about it continuing on into the pool…
I broke the back window because the car was locked then shut the car off and put
it in park." By the time police arrived lt. Owen was already performing CPR.
James Silloway, 72, had suffered an apparent heart attack while driving.
Late Monday his son stopped by to learn more. "We did everything we could for
him. I'm real sorry," Owen said to Silloway’s son. Lt. Owen learned what he
suspected. The driver didn't make it. “My condolences go out to his family. I've
seen a lot of people lost and it’s not easy," Owen said. Silloway who has run a
family business in Parma, was taken to Park Ridge Hospital where he was
pronounced dead.

The Kendall Fire Department was dispatched by Orleans County
Fire Control, to a barn fire at the intersection of Center Road and Car Road on
October 19, 2007 at approximately 12:30 AM. Responding on the initial alarm were
two pumpers, a tanker and a rescue from Kendall and a mutual assistance pumper
and rescue from Morton and a rescue from Holley. Kendall 1 arrived on the scene,
declared a working barn fire, and requested Morton to send a tanker, rather than
a pumper, and augmented the response with requests for a tanker and a pumper
from Hulberton and a tanker and a pumper from Carlton. Hamlin was requested by
2C11 to fill-in Morton for district coverage.
Kendall’s first due engine dropped a line at the intersection and proceeded
down Center Road to the farm house being seriously threatened by heavy fire
brand activity. Two lines were stretched to this exposure eliminating the threat
of a second structure involvement. Kendall’s tanker supplied the first due
pumper and set up a dump tank to begin tanker operations. Kendall’s second
pumper proceeded past the scene and set-up at a hydrant on the Carr Road to
begin tanker fill operations.
A pumper from Carlton staged north of the scene to monitor fire brand
activity in that area. Once the farm house exposure was controlled, a line was
stretched to the Hulberton pumper that had located closer to the barn, and two
lines were used to begin wetting down the original fire structure. The four
tankers shuttling water were able to maintain a constant water supply for the
balance of the operation. The large barn collapsed into a smoldering heap at
about the 40 minute point of the incident.

On Friday, October 12th, the Lyndonville Fire Company hosted
approximately 60 First Graders from Lyndonville Elementary School for the
school's annual fire prevention visit. The three classes of children visited to
learn about fire safety and prevention, how to call 9-1-1, the role of
firefighters/EMT's in the community and the equipment firefighters use to
respond to the various emergencies the fire department encounters.
The children visited three different learning stations designed to give them
a hands-on experience alongside real firefighters. The most popular learning
station allowed the students to flow water through a 1 ¾” hand line and put out
a pretend house fire. At another learning station, one student was coached to
actually call the Orleans County Sheriff Dispatch center to “report” a fire.
While it was clear that this was a guided training exercise (and Dispatch had of
course agreed ahead of time), it gave the children some experience with the
process, and to see and hear how firefighters respond and gear-up for an
interior search and rescue.
At the conclusion of the event, the children were each given a sack filled
with a coloring book, a box of crayons, a pencil, a junior firefighter badge and
a sweet treat. All of the items promoted and reinforced fire prevention and fire
safety.
Thanks to the members of the Lyndonville Fire Company who were able to
attend, and to OCSD dispatcher Mike Draper for his cooperation and
professionalism in receiving and dispatching the children’s "call." Thanks also
to LCS First Grade teachers, Mrs. Strong, Mrs. Nice and Mrs. Muscato for
bringing their courteous and obviously well-prepared students to this important
community education event.

Just before midnight, on October 8th, 2007, the Morton Fire
Department was dispatched to a reported silo fire, near propane tanks, on Redman
Road, Monroe County. A pumper from Hamlin and a rescue (RIT Team) from Holley
also responded as mutual assistance companies.
2C11 reported a working fire, requested channel 4 to be secured and requested
Hilton’s Quint to the scene and a pumper from Kendall to fill-in at the Morton
Fire Station. First due engines from Morton and Hamlin were directed to lay-in
with large diameter hose and a hand line from these two rigs achieved initial
suppression of visible flames. Quint 260 arrived on the scene and placed a
ladder stream directly into the dryer, from the top, to complete initial knock
down. The fire was deeply seated within the stored corn however, and it was
determined that the corn would need to be removed from the dryer. It was
necessary to cut and open the silo when the normal discharge port failed to
open. The slow process of removing the corn was undertaken and Hamlin and Holley
were released from the scene.
Using thermal imaging cameras, it was recognized that there was considerable
heat within the silo and a line was used to cool the sides, and the ladder pipe
was utilized to continue to water down the contents, as the corn was removed.
Operations continued well into the next morning.

The Morton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at
about midnight on the evening of the 21st of September, 2007. 2C11 reported a
working fire on the County Line Road. A Kendall tanker and a Holley rescue were
also dispatched on the initial alarm.
The fire appeared to have started in a mobile home that was situated between
an occupied house and a barn, both very near close to the original fire building
and both quickly also on fire. 2C11 requested two pumpers from Hamlin and
additional rescues with manpower from Brockport and Kendall, along with a
Kendall pumper to fill tankers approximately a mile from the scene. After an
initial interior attack was attempted, it was determined that operations would
shift to a defensive mode and a ladder was requested from Brockport to the
scene.
This particular area has no hydrants and tankers responded from Hulberton,
Hamlin, Walker, Carlton and Clarendon, along with the Kendall and Morton units
dispatched on the initial alarm. Following initial firefighting operations, and
at least one incident of no available water, a constant water supply was secured
which later supported both ground and ladder operations.

Carlton had a few significant calls on the weekend of Sept. 8th and 9th
sorry it took so long to get the stories to you.
The first call was Friday morning at a round 4:50am Dispatch came out
for a reported barn fire. Carlton responded with a pumper and the new brush
truck and put out some farm equipment that was ablaze along with the field to
the north that was starting to catch fire. Albion had the bulk of the fire and
knocked that down pretty quick.
D&C
The second call was Friday afternoon at around 4:15 for the reported
brush fire. Carlton 4, 5 and 67 were one scene within a couple of minutes. At
that time the fire was relatively small and contained. After a few minutes of
fighting the fire in 90+ degree weather the wind started picking up and started
blowing the fire east. Carlton 4 was incident command and at this point called
mutual aid from Albion, Kendall, and Barre. After the mutual aid companies
arrived it didn’t take long to contain and extinguish the fire.
The third call was 5:50am on Saturday morning for the reported house
fire on Station drive just off route 98 in Carlton station. Automatic mutual aid
from Albion was received and Lyndonville stood by at Carlton station 1. Also
Holley’s FAST time was called in. Carlton 3 was the first on scene and declared
a working structure fire. Due to the progress of the fire the first due engine
established a water supply and a defensive attack was established. It didn’t
take long to get the fire under control but Carlton stood by on scene to assist
the fire investigators.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE BODES WELL WITH RESIDENT
On August 29 I was present for an amazing response to a serious automobile
accident in West Shelby. In a matter of minutes, emergency responders from
Shelby, Medina and the Sheriff's Department were at the scene. Like a well oiled
machine, these men and women quickly assessed the situation and worked together
to tend to the medical needs of those involved. I am in awe of the professional,
compassionate care they provided. Together they initiated emergency care until
the victims could safely be transferred by ambulance or Mercy Flight for further
medical treatment. There are those of us that may have taken for granted the
excellent emergency response teams we are so fortunate to have in Orleans
County. Many of these men and women are volunteers donating their time and
energy to serve our community. I will never forget the extraordinary response I
witnessed that day and will be forever grateful to live in an area that has such
dedicated emergency responders. To those of you on the scene, thank you for your
patience with me! I was the lady in your way. Marcia J.

Kendall Car 1 was quickly on the scene and, following size-up, cancelled the
Holley assignment and held the Morton response to one rescue for the use of an
imaging camera. All Kendall apparatus responded and a hand line was deployed to
the door of the structure but held there due to the lack of fire found. The
partition wall was opened and a small burned area was discovered that was
controlled with a water can from the pumper. Propane was shut down to the
structure and the scene was turned over to the building inspector and fire
investigators.

At approximately 5:00 PM on Sunday, September 2, 2007, a motorcycle
carrying a male driver and female rider (husband & wife) rounded a curve heading
east on Roosevelt Highway approaching Redman Road in the Town of Hamlin. At that
time an individual pulled into a driveway crossing the path of the motorcycle
causing both riders to be ejected and seriously injured. The driver of the auto,
who reported being blinded by the sun, was not injured.
Reports of the accident were quickly received by the ECD and the Morton Fire
Department, Hamlin Volunteer Ambulance and Monroe ALS were requested to respond
and Mercy Flight was put on stand-by. 2C11 arrived on the scene, assessed the
situation and took command, requesting the following additional support: Mercy
Flight to the scene, Hamlin Fire to the scene, additional ALS support, road
closure (Kendall & Hamlin Fire Police) and Kendall to fill-in Morton. Hamlin’s
Pumper 243 and Squad 2418, going into service from another near-by alarm, were
quickly on the scene as was Morton’s Rescue 218 and Pumper 215.
Patient care was undertaken by both companies, working side by side, as other
support personnel stretched lines for scene safety and for a Mercy Flight
landing which took place directly next to the accident location. After the
patients were stabilized, the male driver of the motorcycle was transported by

On Saturday July 28th at around 18:18, Carlton was dispatched for the reported
Boat on fire just east of Point Breeze on Lake Ontario. A Second call from
Albion 6 who was out on the Lake in his own vessel reporting smoke from the
engine compartment. Other boaters attempted help, and it was in tow to shore by
a private boat but needed to be cut free due to the heavy fire. Carlton 2
arrived at the black north and confirmed his report and established command.
Carlton Marine 11 (the new fireboat) responded and with a three man crew fought
the fire for around 15 minutes until they placed the fire out. After
extinguishing the blaze, Marine 11 towed the vessel into the channel and was meet
by the coast guard from the Genesee river and the Sheriff marine patrol. Due to

Neighbors reported a house on fire in the early morning hours of Friday,
July 6th, at the intersection of West Fork Lake Road and the Church Road in the
Hamlin Fire District. The house was vacant, windowless and recently used by the
fire department for training. The structure, and near-by, small barn, were
scheduled for an up-coming, live burn exercise.
2C14 was first due and reported a working fire with flames showing all
through the first floor. The Morton Fire Department responded per mutual
assistance agreements, Hilton was requested to send a FAST team and Walker was
requested to fill-in for Hamlin. The Hamlin Volunteer Ambulance responded and
set-up a medical and rehab sector. The Chief declared the fire operations to be
defensive and at no time did a firefighter enter the structure.
Engine 243 took a hydrant directly across from the building and two heavy
attack lines were soon in play. A larger diameter, feeder line was stretched to
Morton’s Engine 215 which set-up just east of the fire building. Morton
stretched one heavy attack line and also operated its deluge set onto the fire
building. Hamlin’s Engine 242 located in the near-by parking lot of St. John’s
Church for exposure protection and Hamlin’s Rescue 248 located to the rear of
Engine 243 providing lighting and equipment support.
The major fire was quickly knocked down and all lines were shut down to allow
the building to continue to burn while waiting for a Town Of Hamlin Highway
Department Drott to respond and knock the building in to a pile. By 4:30 AM, the
house was a burning pile of debris and the small barn was quickly being
demolished and pushed into a pile.

On June 2nd at 16:12 hours, Hulberton responded to 16551 Ridge Road for
the wires that were pulled down by a tractor trailer rig. On arrival, a tractor
trailer rig was found with wires across the refrigeration unit. The
truck/trailer had cleared the wires on entry but upon exiting and due to
the terrain, the trailer became elevated enough to snag a Verizon Telephone
bundle. As a result of that, high voltage primaries also came down from the
upper cross bars in addition to service line being pulled from a nearby house to
the east. National Grid, Time Warner and Verizon were all notified. The
electric lines were replaced without loss of power to customers, the telephone
line was lifted off of the trailer and the rig was removed. Fire units were on scene
for approx 4 hours. PHOTOS

On Thursday evening, May 17th at 1836 hours, the Albion and Carlton
(automatic mutual aid) Fire Departments were dispatched to a possible structure
fire at 13745 Ridge Rd. Deputy Chief D. Szklany, (command), arrived on scene and
confirmed a working fire, with heavy smoke from the structure and also summoned
F.A.S.T. teams from Medina and Lyndonville. First arriving units stretched two 1
3/4" lines, one through the front door and one to the rear of the
residence, finding fire in the kitchen area, which was quickly knocked down. As
the fire started in the area of the stove, ceilings were pulled checking for
extension. Overhaul and salvage was commenced. Engine 10 was confronted with a
problem when the crew attempted to tie the hydrant to the west of the residence
for the supply line and the hydrant blew apart. One minor injury was reported to
a firefighter, who remained on duty. One occupant was taken to the hospital by

Just after 5:00 PM, on Wednesday, May 16th, the Morton Fire Department
was dispatched to investigate a report of a ruptured gas line at 1947 County
Line Road in Kendall Mills. 2C11 was first due on the scene, established
Command, and reported gas free-flowing from a house connection. At that site, a
home was being demolished, with a large excavator and tractor trailer over the
area where the gas was flowing.
Arriving Morton Pumper 215 was directed to set-up at a hydrant north of the
scene, Morton Rescue 218 was directed to block the road at the hydrant, and all
personnel directed to stage with the apparatus. Command then requested the
Kendall Fire Department to respond with one pumper to set-up at a hydrant just
west of the scene and for a rescue truck with manpower. The Kendall personnel
also staged at that hydrant.
Morton Fire Police secured the scene and fire police from Hamlin, Kendall and
Brockport were requested by Command to assist in closing all roads with incoming
traffic.
RG&E arrived on the scene and after investigating the leak, and the
position of the shut-off valve, requested that the tractor trailer be moved to
allow access to the valve. The move occurred without incident and the line was
soon shut down. After air quality was checked at the surrounding homes, and
found to be acceptable, the incident was declared to be under control and all
units were returned to service. PHOTOS

Saturday, April 21st. The Albion Fire Department was dispatched for a
report of the smell of natural gas in the Village Visitor Center at 121 North
Main Street. This is a three story masonry building housing offices and
conference areas. First arriving units found a significant amount of gas
in the building. Engine 31 was positioned on the Main Street side of the
building, with Engine 10 located in the rear of the structure. Command was
established by the Chief, with the Deputy Chief taking command of operations.
Positive pressure ventilation was utilized to move the product out of the
building, but because of the building design and the lack of operable windows,
did not readily provide enough air flow. Buildings adjacent to the
structure were continually monitored for the presence of natural gas. The
Genesee County Haz Mat team was special called to provide intrinsically safe
fans, that were used to go room to room to ventilate the structure. COVA
was on scene to provide medical assistance, should it have been needed.
The gas was introduced into the building after a heater in a restroom on the
outside of the building had been removed during the night. The natural gas
line to the device was cut, and the gas was allowed to free flow into the
building for a prolonged period of time.

Shortly after 8:00 AM on March 23, 2007, the Morton Fire Department and
the Hamlin Ambulance were dispatched to a reported motor vehicle accident on
Roosevelt Highway (NYS 18) between Kendall Mills and the Redman Road. ECD
reported that a car was underneath a garbage truck, that the driver was
breathing, but in very bad shape, and that Mercy Flight was notified of the
incident. 2C41 arrived on the scene and requested Mercy Flight to respond and
for Hamlin and Kendall Fire Police to close down the highway. Rescue 218 arrived
on the scene and extrication equipment was deployed as patient care was enacted.
Firefighter EMT personnel determined that the drive had deceased and that rescue
operations were to terminate. Hamlin Ambulance and Monroe ALS medics confirmed
the status of the driver.
After covering the vehicle, emergency personnel began spilled fluids control
and stood-by to support the police investigation and further recovery
operations. A possible cause of the accident was the bright sunrise that may
have temporarily blinded the driver as he rounded a curve in the road where the
garbage truck had stopped to make a pick-up. PHOTOS

Department was dispatched to a structure fire on North Main Street, at the
corner of Clark Street, in the Village. Heavy smoke was showing from a large
commercial building housing an auto parts store and a large, open garage area to
the rear of the parts store.
Pumper 233 was first on the scene and laid a supply line past the building to
the south side of the structure on Clark Street where it supplied three hand
lines. Ladder 231 pulled into a driveway on the north side of the building and
raised its ladder for roof operations on the north-west side of the structure.
Pumper 2325 took the same hydrant and operated two hand lines from the east side
of the structure. Pumper 232 and Hamlin's Pumper 243, responding on mutual
assistance, provided manpower and equipment, along with Rescue 238. A Holley
pumper was also requested to respond to the scene to fill-out manpower
requirements. Fill-in pumpers were provided by Spencerport and Bergen.
The fire was concentrated in the garage area and firefighting was hampered by
fire that had extended into a large motor home within the structure. The fire
was hot enough that one roof beam, directly over the motor home, stretched to
approximately four inches off its center line. The fire was quickly knocked down
once large overhead doors could be raised to allow stream penetration. Extension
into the parts store was checked and only a small area showed any damage from
extension. Several fans were deployed to remove the smoke from the store and
tarps were placed to minimize water damage.
The fire was placed under control at 2:57 PM and the last unit left the scene
at 4:30 PM. The cause of the fire has not been determined. Occupants were in the
building when the fire was discovered working on two wave runners in preparation
for a trip to Florida. PHOTOS

Story below (Info from MCFW)
Churchville sent 2 pumpers, 1 tanker and an ambulance to the scene. Gates
Co 3 filled in at Churchville. Brockport sent 1 pumper and a ladder to the scene
and 1 pumper to fill in Bergen. Mumford and Morton operated at the scene with
pumper tankers. Chili filled in at Bergen, Spencerport/Hamlin filled in at
Brockport. Genesee county and Orleans county had too many departments to list
with tankers.
Command of this incident was Bergen's Chief 301/Churchville's Chief 4C-12 (had
to have 2 because of different radio systems until a patch was sent up). An
exterior attack was called early on due to fire load/volume, construction, and
low water pressure. Problems with the water pressure force a lengthy pumper
relay on the south side operations.
South side operations consisted of Churchville's deputy chief 4C-22/Bergen's
deputy chief 302 . The south side pumper relay consisted of 2 Churchville
pumpers and 2 additional pumpers to feed multiple master streams including
Leroy's tower.
North side operations consisted of Brockport 2C-13 & 2C-23/Bergen Deputy
chief 303 . Bergen's/Brockport's equipment set up a tanker relay on the North
side to feed Brockport's aerial and multiple master streams. North side
operations were hampered by overhead high voltage lines and low water pressure.
Water supply operations consisted of Genesee county, Monroe County Coordinator
